Lugares Latches to 7th, Tiemsin, Manliclic Land in 9th Place in Math Quiz Bee Competition

On Oct. 8, the third and final day of Baliwag City Private Schools Association (BaCiPriSA) 2026 Meet was held at Saint Jean Baptiste Academy, Inc. (S.J.B.A.), Lorenz Roj Lugares secured 7th place, while Jophiel Tiemsin and Thomas Khendryl Manliclic both obtained 9th place in Math Quiz Bee competition for their specific levels; level 3, 2, and 1, respectively.

Mr. Lugares was coached by Ms. Almira Evangelista, Mr. Tiemsin by Ms. Catherine Cruz, and Mr. Manliclic by Ms. Joseiphine Bautista.

Ms. Cruz shared the syllabus for Mr. Tiemsin’s training as they covered a wide horizon of different topics to prepare him for the competition. The subjects ranged from ratio and proportions all the way to geometrical concepts such as calculating area.

Mr. Lugares shared in an interview his most notable highlights post-match. He said, “My best experience was being able to solve equations from topics I did not have much knowledge on.”

He also added how healthy challenges drive his growth, remarking: “This shows that math isn’t only about memorizing formulas, but it is on how we interpret and visualize these problems through identifying the given and what we are aiming to solve.”

Regarding the most valuable lessons he learned after the competition, he learned that the meticulous process of solving problems required careful diligence and scrutiny.

Mr. Lugares stated, “One mistake can cost everything. By just missing a symbol or object, miscalculating or misinterpeting the problem can change your final answer.”

Whether it be through probability, permutations, geometry, or algebra, the sheer dedication required to comprehend mathematical teaching is truly something to marvel at.

These contestants have shown up time and time again to showcase both their cerebral intellects as well as their commitment for continuous growth.

As students of St. Mary’s College of Baliuag, and as members of the Ignacian-Marian community, they have found the equation when it comes to inspiring every one of us.
