Mas pinaigting nina Department of Foreign Affairs (D.F.A.) Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro at Bise Presidente (B.P.) ng European Union (E.U.) para sa Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas ang kanilang ugnayan bilang isang ‘enhanced partnership’ noong Biyernes, Hulyo 24.
Sa paglagda ng joint statement at ang pormal nitong paglunsad kasabay ng isang linggong Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Minister’s Meeting sa Lungsod ng Pasay, inihayag ni B.P. Kallas na ito ay hindi lamang isang ‘panibagong label’.
“This will just not be a new label. It means more regular, high-level dialogues, closer coordination on foreign and security policy, and stronger cooperation across areas that matter to our citizens from trade to climate, digital, and connectivity,” aniya.
Para naman kay Gng. Lazaro, sinabi niya na malinaw na ipinakikita ng mga naging pagpupulong ang kalaliman ng mga kapwa interes ng Pilipinas at E.U. at ang nagkakaisang pangako sa pagharap sa mga hamon at oportunidad.
“These areas of cooperation and heightened engagement are just some of the elements that cement the growing partnership between the Philippines and the European Union and signal that the time is ripe for the elevation of our relations.”
E.U., inilunsad ang ₱1B ayuda para sa seguridad ng Pilipinas
Matapos ang paglagda, inanunsyo ni B.P. Kallas ang paglulunsad ng E.U. sa panibagong €15 milyon o ₱1.05 bilyong ayuda upang mas mapatibay ang maritime capabilities ng Pilipinas.
“This support will strengthen your country’s maritime capabilities through non-lethal surveillance and monitoring equipment. This is the first-ever European Peace Facility (E.P.F.) support to be implemented in the Indo-Pacific, and a clear demonstration that Europe is stepping up as a security partner in the region.”
Nakatuon ang suportang ito sa pagpapatibay ng kakayahan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (A.F.P.) sa aspekto ng maritime domain awareness sa mga maritime zones ng bansa.
Isang instrumentong nagkakahalaga ng milyun-milyong euro, ang E.P.F., ay nakatakda upang mapahusay ang kakayahan ng E.U. na pigilan ang mga sigalot, mapanatili ang kapayapaan, at palakasin ang pandaigdigang seguridad at katatagan.
