Ben Simmons Returns and Signs with the Kings

Former No. 1 overall pick drafted by the 76ers and a three-time NBA All-Star Ben Simmons is making his return to the NBA after agreeing to a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Sacramento Kings.

Simmons, who is 30 years old, missed the entire 2025–26 NBA season while recovering from back and leg issues. His last NBA appearance came in April 2025 with the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Australian guard enters Sacramento with a chance to revive a career that once saw him emerge as one of the league’s brightest young stars. Selected first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016, Simmons won Rookie of the Year and earned three consecutive All-Star selections from 2019 to 2021.

Despite his recent struggles with injuries and hateful comments about his shooting, Simmons still brings valuable passion and versatility, particularly as a defender and playmaker. Over his 383 career games, he has averaged 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

The Kings, meanwhile, are looking to rebuild after finishing the 2025–26 season with a 22–60 record. Sacramento hopes Simmons can provide veteran leadership and help support its younger players.

For Simmons, this move represents more than just another NBA contract. It is an opportunity to prove that he can return to the player he once was and begin a new chapter in his career.

The Kings will start their preseason against the Los Angeles Lakers on October 5, while their regular-season opener is scheduled for October 21 against the Clippers.
