Spain defeats Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup Finals

Ferran Torres hit a goal past Emiliano Martínez to win a trophy for his country. With this goal, Spain wins its second World Cup title in history.

The Championships remained scoreless throughout 90 minutes of the play. Spain controlled possession and created better opportunities throughout the game, but Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez proceeded to make a series of outstanding saves to keep his team the reigning champions and keep the hopes alive until the decisive breakthrough finally arrived.

Finally the breakthrough arrived, in the 106th minute of extra time. Ferran Torres sent an attack that won them their trophy, sending Spanish supporters into celebration and putting La Roja within touching distance of football’s biggest prize.

The victory marks a historic achievement for head coach Luis de la Fuente, whose team completed an impressive tournament built on solid defence, tactical discipline, and first-class attacks.

For Argentina, the defeat ended their hopes of defending their World Cup title. This match was also an emotional rollercoaster for Lionel Messi, whose appearance in the final may prove to be the last World Cup of his career.

With the final whistle, Spain celebrated its second FIFA World Cup victory, adding the 2026 title to its historic victory in 2010. Ferran Torres’ extra-time strike will be remembered as the goal that returned football’s most prestigious trophy to Spain after a 16-year wait.
