In search of tomorrow’s champion

Challenging rising stars and molding future talents, the World Table Tennis (W.T.T.) Youth Contender Gangneung 2026 brought together over 400 young table tennis prospects from all around the world at the Gangneung Arena in Gangwon Province.

Before the tournament started, the Korea Table Tennis Association hosted the 2026 Asia-Europe Elite Youth Joint Training Camp.

Despite being opponents in the upcoming competition, Korean, European, Japanese, and Taiwanese athletes participated in shared training methods and friendly games together for 10 days.

The matches officially began on Sept. 14, featuring players from elementary level to juniors representing high schools and professional teams across five categories: U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19.

Beyond determining winners, the event gives these competitors a chance to gain international experience, face different gameplays, and measure themselves against some of the strongest.

With the W.T.T. Youth Contender Gangneung 2026 concluding on the 17th, it will be followed by the W.T.T. Youth Star Contender Gangneung.

A part of the Gangneung series, the Star Contender’s level will intensify by bringing established players from countries with strong youth programs to test their international competitiveness.

Through these competitions, the search for tomorrow’s champion who will dominate the tables and change the face of the next generation will be uncovered.
